Chairman's Message

Hakeem Muhammad Usman Sheikh

Pakistan Tibbi Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (PTPMA) is a representative Trade Body of the quality manufacturers of Traditional Medicine of Pakistan also known as Tibbi-e-Islami/Herbal or Unani system of Medicine. This system is widely practiced and accepted in the country. According to a survey about 80% of the population of developing countries including Pakistan is benefited by this system of medicine for at least primary healthcare needs of its people. Undoubtedly, the Tibbi knowledge was revealed by the Creator Himself to the most pious human beings انبیاء علیہم السلام of the mankind. Greek physicians contributed a lot for the advancement of this system.

Last of the Holy Prophets حضرت محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم laid down the principles for every sphere of the system. The Scholars and physicians of the golden Muslim era, adhering to the teachings and principles of the Holy Prophet حضرت محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم , made enviable and valuable contributions to this system. Therefore, it was named as Tibb-e-Islami or Islamic Medicine by the medieval Europe historians, which was a well-deserved tribute to the medical scholars of Islamic era.

The Tibbi Pharmaceutical Industry of Pakistan is the custodian of this Islamic system of medicine and national heritage and it strives to safeguard and promote it in accordance with the philosophy and fundamentals of Tibb-e-Islami / Unani and its pharmacy & pharmaceutical guidelines. The main difference between the allopathic system of medicine and Tibbe-e-Islami is that in former pure compounds with high potency are used as medicine (producing several side effects) while in later herbs and minerals are used in their natural forms and each preparation contains a number of ingredients to nullify the side effects and/or synergize the action of individual ingredients (the phenomenon which is now being scientifically proven).

Pakistan Tibbi Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (earlier on, Pakistan Tibbi DawaKhana Association) since 1984-85 has been struggling on its own to promote and safeguard the rights of its members and users through legal, scientific and economic platforms. In this regard, PTPMA has been registered as Trade Body in 2014. After promulgation of Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) ordinance, regardless of having reservations, our members worked extremely hard to comply with the rules and regulations of DRAP and received approvals from the authorities to continue their businesses

However, we still feel and strongly demand and struggle for establishing a separate directorate to regulate this especially important industry of the country under a separate regulatory structure, administered by the qualified & experienced people of the relevant field like other countries. This will promote the development and control of this national heritage which has suffered a lot in the past. We are open for discussion with the authorities to develop a plan to regulate this industry for mutual benefits. We pray Almighty Allah (s.w.t) to give us the courage to work in the right direction for this system of medicine and welfare of human being (Aameen).
